Hello to all Darjeelingeys!!!!

If you r watching Indian Idol 3...you have to watch it this Friday (11th) and Saturday (12th) because they will be showing Kolkata audition. In this episode you will see Prashant Tamang, one of St. Robert's ex-students, who has already qualified for the Mumbai round and has reached the last group of 28, passing through 3 qualifying rounds in Mumbai.

He lost his father when he was studying in class 10 in the year 2001. So, he had left school to join Calcutta Police where he has been working for the last 5 years. It was a blessing in disguise for him because in Kolkata, he got a chance to sit for the audition for Indian Idol. He used to sing from the time he joined class 5. He used to come 1st or 2nd every time in inter-class singing competitions. He also got a chance to sing solo in their concerts. Yesterday, he was in Darj with the Sony TV crew in the school as he had told them that he learnt singing from my dad (Deep Waiba) and Pema Lama while studying at St. Robert’s. Three young professionals from Sony TV did a lot of videography with him in the school including shots of the whole school singing hymns, boys playing in the field etc. At the end they took some interviews....I guess you can watch these clips inlater episodes of the Indian Idol show!

Keep watching and please ask all darjeelingeys, who are in India and their friends to SMS vote for Prashant Tamang...I guess only people in India can vote!!.....So lets keep our fingers crossed and wish the best for Prashant Tamang!!!!!!!!!!

When an Assamese boy contested for a singing competition, the entire state of Assam was voting for him and he won the contest hands down. I heard that ULFA had even issued an ultimatum to the people to vote a certain number of sms’s per person per episode of that contest! Talk about support!

And how did Sanjaya reach the top ten(?) in American Idol? People voted for him.

So we will definitely will vote for Prashant Tamang when the voting round begins.

Namaste! After reading your impassioned "reaction" ma ta ek chhin ta walla pare, would you believe it? To me your nickname"Can chha" does not quite rhyme with "Kanchha" the youngest! Anyway, it's just a forum name and I don't believe you are really a Can chha or Kan chha as you seem to imply! Likewise I don't expect you to believe I am "ppeache" .Tapain le etiquette ko kura po nikalnu bho? Tara tyo kura ma absolutely manchhu. I am familiar with forum etiquette as well.

I am still learning but my experience tells me that there is really nothing wrong in calling mother, father, mummy, daddy so long as son or daughter is loving and dutiful and and does everything to keep them happy and proud, which for me is the most important thing. Alas, this is not always the case as we all know. Some amas, babus, matas, pitas are sometimes heard to lament, "sano ma rahar lagdo............."!

High tech age, computers etc are today's undeniable facts and so is our beautiful Darjeeling. But with the one who teaches Physics Theory and Newton's Law of Motion ma unread manchhe le ke bhannu sakchhu ra? Aba jahan samma janta ko pragati ko kura chha ke bhanau? I agree the situation is not encouraging, Darjeeling ma buddhi jibi, hune khane ko abhaw bhako jasto lagdaina, uniharule lead garnu nasake, perhaps the Law of Evolution or the Law of Nature will take care in due course!! Darjeeling bursting at the seams ta hoina burst bhai sake ko kahile dekhne ho "the authorties concerned" le?

Let us hope there will emerge before long some "joon jhaari dine" Kanchhas and will do something to restore Darjeeling to her former glory!

Pranam Sir,

All that you wrote so lucidly about teachers has reminded me about the late Mr A J Pradhan, eminent educationist and former headmaster of Ghoom Boys’ Higher Secondary School. As you know he passed away in Kurseong last month at 74, according to Hindustan Times. I would like to take this opportunity to pay my belated, nonetheless sincere tribute to him for his life long inspiring dedication to teaching and education; by saying he was a good teacher like a candle that consumed itself to light the way for others.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to judge anybody without considering their circumstance but teachers who are unprofessional and discredit the good honest ones surely cannot last long! Their conscience will make them feel guilty sooner or later, oh well lets hope so!
The well dressed man is he whose clothes you never notice said somebody. Please do not take any offence but as a student I have always held the view that a well dressed teacher, not necessarily in expensive suits, was a good organizer of his life as well. I liked to feel proud of my teacher and follow his example. However, I like Charlie Chaplin, too!

Well, Sir, thank you for reading my posts and for your responses. I am afraid this will be my last post for a while as I am on the move again. Bye.

Well, if you get robbed, you call the cops. Indian Idol apparently does not need to as both robbers and cops come to audition… Meet Prashant Tamang – a newly recruited cop by the Kolkata police! He stated that he was the lead singer of the Kolkata Police Band and his friends persuaded him to audition. He marched in the audition room and informed the judges that he was a Sipoy (literal translation – soldier) originally from Darjeeling, the Tea Capital of the World! He had a lovely voice, but Annu asked him to sing a current song, which he did, but there was a slight problem, his pronunciations of certain words were mildly horrific! Despite that Javed Saab thought he had an interesting weird voice. Alisha talked about the pronunciation and the fact that he will have to work on his diction. Annu thought that he deserves to be in Mumbai, as he had the most interesting voice, they had ever heard that day and that he can be groomed. So he was through and it was real cute to hear him scream in delight as he was leaving the room.

Finally got to see Prashant. I am so glad to hear that he is already in the 28 finalist..because right now I just saw him completing the theatre round and I am looking forward to see him in the duet round. However, I didnt like his partner's attitude koni aphi lai ke samjhe ko. I hope he goes through it well!

After the voting starts, I would definitely vote for him...Lets all do this for our gaonley!

It looks like his show is over for Prashant even before it started since his partner that small girl thinks she knows all and refuses to pratice with him.The story would have been similar to the last duet singers competion of the Indian idol where the girl from Assam and the boy from Rajastan wanted to change partners then it was romance all the way except that the girl is very small in age.

[color=darkred][color=brown]I have seen the video-clip of Prashant Tamang and too bad we can not join voting for Indian Idol 3 in Belgium, or it would be quite expensive.

He could sing very nice, seems like a friendly guy, and looks very cute.
I think if the boy would give a concert in Belgium, he'd have already a lot of fans. I think he'll surely make it, if not in Idols, then with another show or programm. And I think he can also become very popular in Nepal, why not? So if I could vote, I'd vote for him.
I always go for the nice and cute, talented boys if it comes to vote.

In Belgium, we also have a programm: named idols and the winners have to have an x-factor. They have to look good, have to have a natural and good voice, have to be good in feeling rythm, music. At the end, they have to perform with a band. It was interesting to watch, and I always voted for the most natural person: for whom singing and making music seems the same like breathing in and out.

Anyway, keep me posted about how it ended for the boy, Prasant Tamang daju.
