It is obviously his nickname, I may know of his family. It is so sad that his little daughter has to be told a small lie.
My deepest sympathies to his beloved family, especially his little girl. May his soul rest in peace in God's eternal tender loving care.
Being the father of a little girl myself, this just brings home to me that there is no gaurantee in life. _________________ Love the people who treat you right. Forgive the ones who don't.'

I was quite shocked to hear the sad news about Lottay. Though he was quite junior to me i knew him when we used to hang out in Anamika resturant and Sanjivani pharmacy during the Gorkhaland agitation. May his soul rest in peace. I think he had two more brothers but I'm not sure. |

Kurseong’s lone cinema hall may reopen soon
http://www.thestatesman.net/page.news.php?clid=10&theme=&usrsess=1&id=165602
Statesman News Service
KURSEONG, Aug 7: Closed for years, Plaza Theatre, the only cinema hall of Kurseong could reopen soon, much to the glee of the locals.
No one can recollect which year the theatre was constructed but according to the old timers of this hill town, the facility was built during the era of silent movies. The edifice which once buzzed with activity now stands an empty and desolate structure, almost waiting to be razed.
According to Plaza Theatre’s former manager Mr Jeevan Lama, the first stint of shutdown came during the Gorkhaland movement in the late 80s. “Although the theatre reopened after the agitation, it had suffered serious technical damages due to the prolonged closure, which started to tell on the daily shows forcing the theatre to continue haltingly. Problems between the workers’ union and the theatre management thereafter drove the final nail and the cinema continues to remain under lock and key,” the former manager, said.
The management also has its story to tell. Due to the hiccups, running the theatre became non-viable. Although the management tried to continue despite tight financial conditions, the loss kept mounting forcing the management to think twice. The theatre, it was learnt, reopened only to close down again at least 20 times between 1986 and 2001.
According to the former manager Mr Lama, there was a period when the management experimented to run the hall by projecting shows through DVD system. “But on learning that it was illegal, they stopped the system,” he added.
Meanwhile, the 14 staff members of the cinema has come down to seven. The closure of the hall is also having its effect on shops nearby. The once thriving business area now wears a deserted look. “The closure of the hall has also thrown us out of business,” rued a local shopkeeper.
The Chalchitra Kala Pratishthan, Kurseong, president, Mr Binod Sharma said that due to lack of a cinema hall, talented boys and girls from the hills are not getting the required exposure. He also demanded cancellation of the cinema’s license if the current management fails to run the show.
Talking to The Statesman, the current owner of Plaza Theatre, Mr Anand
Prakash, said that the management intended to reopen the theatre soon, “if possible in a year’s time.”
Kurseong is a tourism spot but the hill town suffers from lack of entertainment arenas. The general belief is that the reopening of the cinema would go a long way to solve that problem. _________________ We live to discover beauty. All else is a form of waiting. |

para son > thanks for this heartening news, I have very close sentimental link to the cinema hall as it was once owned by my late grandmother (dad's mom). It was sad to learn about its demise in the first place. I certainly hope that the news is true and the present owner keeps his word. Cheers. _________________ Love the people who treat you right. Foul Comments against Nepali Community & Prashant.
Red Fm 93.5 guy Nitin made foul comments against Nepali Community and Prahant..
He said :
Aaaj Prashant Tamang 'Nepali larka from Darjeeling' has become Indian Idol 'with sarcastic laugh'.. and we have match tonight so we need to guard our house / malls / resturants by ourself as there will be no Nepali People to guard these place and whole night we need to say "Jagtay Raho". He also added that all the Footpath momo shops will remain closed as Nepali guy has become Indian Idol.
Its really disheartning to hear all these stuff...... Called Red Fm the same moment...however... they tried to twist the topic
Its really amazing that...Whenever someone calls them black or what ever.. the whole India burns but they never try to put themselves in our shoes.
We claim to be in the most democratic country and we call ourself democrat but are we treated in the way we are supposed to be???????
If somebody calls Shilpa Shetty "Black" the whole nation is ignited but are we aware of the scenario in our own motherland......
We must make him / Fm station appologize for this..Call Nitin.. 0120 419 35935 or email (Nitin's Boss) anhita@myredfm.com and make them feel our presence.. _________________ you laugh because I'm different........

The remarks of the radio anchor - as pointed out by Prodigy are like that of a blind man who had only touched the tail of an elephant and concluded that an elephant is like a piece of rope. His limited knowledge of the Gorkhali community is perhaps based on a few poor Gorkhali people that he might have seen working as guards in his vicinity. Like Goodies remarks, the anchor's remarks are uncalled for and donot reflect the opinion of the people of India. Even the poorest of Gorkhali people are respected all over the country as the most honest, brave and dependable people.
As a person who has lived like an integral member of gorkhali community in Kurseong for many years I strogly believe and has always told my friends that gorkhali youth of Darjeeling have a tremendous potential in music, sports and fine arts and one day it shall unfold like a surprise. I am happy the time has come.
We better brush aside such remarks by ill informed people and concentrate projecting our potential before the world. Any sensible person shall only congratulate us at this juncture.

Indian idol fans clash with locals at Siliguri
Siliguri.Sept.27 (PTI): Several persons were injured as a procession by fans of 'Indian idol' Prashant Tamang clashed with locals. Thousands of locals chased the 2000-odd processionists from Hasmi Chowk to the nearby Siliguri court- compound. The spot then turned into a battlefield with both sides hurling stones at each other, Inspector- General, North Bengal, R J S Nawla said.
Rapid action force personnel cordoned off the area as a large police force went to the spot but the stone pelting still continued, Nawla said, while appealing to both sides to maintain amity and communal harmony.
The IG said that trouble began when an ambulance, with a patient, tried to move through the procession but was intercepted. In the ensuing altercation, local people allegedly beat the patient and those accompanying him sparking off protests.
As the processionists then began ransacking adjoining shops, more local people assembled and situation worsened further.
Earlier, a procession was taken out in protest against alleged derogatory comments by a radio jockey in Delhi against Indian idol winner Prashant Tamang.

More news from the grapevine.
To top it all,Prashant has been offered a ticket for the next election,by Subash Ghising.
On the day of the Indian Idol final,Subash Ghising was not in Darjeeling. The fans of Prashant were furious. They declared that he wouldn't be allowed back in Darjeeling.Hearing this,Ghising's immediate response was to wish Prashant well. _________________ you laugh because I'm different........
